About Teens Teach

Teens Teach is a nonprofit organization founded by two Eastlake high school students, Ishanvi and Alicia, to make academic support more accessible for younger learners—and create meaningful, flexible volunteer opportunities for teens.

High school volunteers planning together at a community learning space

Our mission

We connect high school volunteers with students in grades K–8 who can benefit from free, friendly tutoring. By sharing what they know, teen tutors help younger students practice important skills, ask questions, and feel more confident in the classroom.

Our values

We believe every student deserves an equal chance to flourish in high school and beyond. Strong foundations in core subjects can open doors, build confidence, and help students take on the next stage of learning. That is why we want K–8 students to have a welcoming place to strengthen the skills they will carry with them into high school.

Extra academic help should not be kept from a student because of money or family circumstances. By offering tutoring at no cost, we aim to make supportive learning more accessible and help students get the encouragement they need to reach their potential.

We also believe in giving back to our community. Teens Teach brings students together across grade levels: high school volunteers share their time and knowledge, while younger learners receive patient, one-on-one support. In the process, teen tutors grow as responsible, thoughtful leaders—and everyone has the chance to learn from one another.

Free tutoring for K–8 students

Students can receive help in math, English, history, science, Spanish, and computer science. Each tutoring session lasts one hour and takes place on Zoom, making it possible to learn from home and connect with a volunteer online.

Flexible volunteer hours for high schoolers

High school students can earn meaningful volunteer hours by tutoring younger learners on a flexible weekly schedule that can fit around classes, activities, and other commitments. Along the way, tutors take responsibility for showing up prepared, practice explaining ideas in different ways, and build leadership, communication, patience, and teaching skills. It’s hands-on experience that makes a real difference for a younger student—and helps you grow as a mentor and leader, too.

How it works

  1. Students and families reach out about the subject where the student would like support.
  2. A high school volunteer and K–8 student meet online for a one-hour tutoring session.
  3. Sessions take place on Zoom, where students can ask questions and practice what they are learning.

Learn together. Give back together.

Whether you are looking for free tutoring for a K–8 student or want to volunteer as a high school tutor, we would love to hear from you.
